Wonder Woman

  • film rumored to “have similar problems as Batman v Superman” (Smith)Referring to several rumors he’d seen online, Smith went on to say that the word “disjointed” has been a commonly used term to describe the film’s storyline.
  • Bernardin mentioned the possibility of test screenings in the near future and how test audience reactions could easily lead to rewrites and reshoots; in an effort to improve the film.

  • Wonder Woman has a current release date of June 2nd, 2017. Patty Jenkins (director of 2003’s Monster) is directing the film, starring Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and Chris Pine as Steve Trevor.

THOUGHTS:

            • I’d be surprised if Warners made another DCEU film as “disjointed” as BvS. I just don’t see them ignoring that many reviews. While listening to the podcast, I started to think about Suicide Squad as an example. While that film may not have been perfect, it still had a far more coherent story than BvS. As I’m thinking this, Bernardin goes on talking about possible Wonder Woman test screenings, and how test screening strategies were what got us the two different cuts of the film in the end. So, however you felt about Squad, again, it was more coherent than BvS in terms of story and character. This improvement gives me hope that the next film, Wonder Woman will be even better than Squad. It sure does look amazing. It truly does.  But, as many would agree, so did the trailers for BvS. And then, we all saw the film.

GREEN LANTERN CORPS

“WB announced they were not giving up entirely on Green Lantern” (Bernardin)

        • It was thought that they might, given that he is not showing up in Justice League (Bernardin)
      • “Described as Lethal Weapon in space” (Smith)
        • After the widely disliked Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern film in 2011, the property of Lantern probably still leaves a bad taste in the mouth of WB. Perhaps such a taste is the reason WB is holding off on bringing him into the Justice League right out of the gate, especially in the first ever JL movie. It could just be that they don’t want to rush it, instead allowing more time for a quality live action character to get developed.
          • I have no problem with the wait. Being more of  Bat-fan than anything, I couldn’t say that the Green Lantern is one of my DC favs. Still, I do find the character interesting nonetheless, and would prefer DC/WB took their time to get it right this time. Just look at HBO series like Game of Thrones, following years of the Sopranos doing the same: taking over a year many times between each season, again, to make sure the production is solid before putting it out. This is why I never complain when I have to wait longer than expected for Thrones; not do I ever understand the complainers. How often does that show ever let you down, people?
          • If this is true, then it would likely be Hal Jordan and John Stewart Green Lanterns–considering the white/black buddy cop approach of Lethal Weapon: Riggs, a white cop (Mel Gibson) and Merthaugh, a black cop (Danny Glover).
          • It broke just over a week ago that David Goyer will be writing the new Green Lantern Corps, along with Justin Rhodes.

As of now, Green Lantern Corps  is set for a release date of July 24th, 2020 (IMDB.com).

Justice League

Empire Photo released on the 23rd: Not too much of a reveal for me personally, considering there was a short clip of this exact setting in the JL trailer

  • From Batman-News.com: Just today, 1/27 on Twiter,  Joe Manganiello confirms Ben Affleck’s Deathstroke footage was a screen test
    • Interesting point made by Batman-News: While this confirms the Deathstroke footage was a screen test, it still doesn’t help us know which movie it was from. Many fans believe Deathstroke will show up in Justice League based on this footage and storyboards that Snyder has shared.
    • THOUGHTS: I’m gonna go with the side of JL here. I don’t doubt that Deathstroke will be the main villain of Ben Affleck’s solo film, titled The Batman. But, recently, Affleck has been quoted saying the film may not even happen unless the script is right first. He’s made it clear time and again that he wants to get it or not do it at all. Affleck has admitted that he has not been devoting time solely to The Batman, being busy with his last film, Live by Night. All this is to say that The Batman will not be done for quite awhile, while Justice League premieres this summer. Plus, Zack Snyder’s doing the Deathstroke storyboarding? I know that Snyder is a great storyboarder and would totally be a good candidate for the job of boarding, even if it isn’t for his own film. But again, said film, The Batman is not around the corner, while JL is coming and he’s also the one directing.
